Movie Review: Forbidden Siren

CD I'm listening to: Happy Feet Soundtrack

Current craving: Bathtub with warm water and rose petals

Went out with Siddiq, Andre and Sam for a movie last night. I guess the last movie I saw was with Eric and my friends back in December, Casino Royale. And this time we went for a japansese horror flick which Sam said was based on the popular PS2 game which bears the same title.

Yeap, this is the one. The Malay title of the movie
is "Siren Maut". Malay titles never fails to make me snort.
Story: A girl is brought to the island of Yamajima because of her ill brother. She discovers that there was a massacre on the island thirty years ago and is irritated by the weird behaviours of the village people. The house they live in has long been deserted, full of dust and old blood stains. Her neighbour gives her a strange warning: “When you hear the siren, never go out”.
It is the beginning of a series of mysterious incidents: A group of dancers in fancy clothes, mysterious scribbles on the walls of a ruined house, a suddenly deserted market, a pretty girl in a red dress standing on the hill…
Bro: "Sis, you have smelly armpits..."
Yuki: "I know, but shut up anyway shithead."
B: "Are they gonna kill us?"
Y: "Not me. The first thing I'm gonna do when the
demons come is to throw you into their mouths."
Gradually, Yuki loses her trust in the people around her. She is determined to protect her brother from the unknown peril that seems to be surrounding them. Then one night, she hears the siren. And the terror begins when everything turns ugleh! Muahahahahaha.
"Why don't you just die and get this over with so
I can fuckin wipe this horrible makeup off my face!?"
*Kevin screams*
IMO: I didn't play the PS2 version of Forbidden Siren, but the whole movie did struck me as a horror videogame. The acting was nothing much to brag about. I love the man who plays the father although he made me scream in the cinema when he.... okay, no spoilers! Anyway, if you've played the game, you might find the movie not as compelling as the video game. But for me, it was pretty damn scary. Hence the screaming. And the people were pretty much laughing after my scream. Ahhhh, I could have had a heart attack. Some things are not well-explained in the movie even towards the end, although you can never count on horror flicks to make too much of a sense nowadays. The story is interesting, yes, but it's a little bit too little compared to the original game.
Bottomline: Go if you need to spend RM9 to get scared. I did.
I don't know what the heck is wrong with me these days. My schedule is completely off. I went back to Andre's place after the movie and dinner at Burger King in OneU and went to bed... erm, sofa at 2am after reading some really useful articles on Andre's magazines. Maybe it was because I didn't feel comfortable, maybe it was the Mauritius guys having sex in their rooms, I couldn't sleep until 7am in the morning. And I was supposed to wake up at 8:30am. Which I eventually didn't and missed the first performance of PARTS in 2007. I heard it went very well. Hopefully we get more gigs after this lol. And hopefully we get paid more :)
That's all for the day. I'll be watching Death Note 2 with some friends tomorrow evening so wait for the review. And also a post on the new cafeteria KDU.SQ with pictures taken at the opening ceremony during the PARTS performance. Stay tuned.
